Blink twice
Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut is nothing short of extraordinary. Blink Twice (2024) is visually stunning, with its beautifully crafted location, creating the perfect backdrop for this wild, intoxicating thriller. Kravitz brings a fresh perspective to the thriller scene that makes the film an absolute must-watch, keeping your eyes glued to the screen from start to finish.
The cast truly shines in this film, with Adria Arjona delivering a standout performance as a supporting actress to Naomi Ackie’s lead. Arjona completely steals the show, adding depth and nuance to every scene she’s in. However, I would have loved to see more of Alia Shawkat, whose character had so much potential but felt underutilized despite being an important addition to the plot.
Channing Tatum, known for his recent role as the heroic Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, makes a surprisingly convincing turn as the villainous tech billionaire, Slater King. Initially, I was skeptical about seeing him play such a dark role, but Tatum nailed it, bringing a chilling and charismatic edge to the character.
While Blink Twice is undeniably entertaining, the ending felt a bit too neatly wrapped up. The reversal of power, where Frida seizes control of Slater’s life, company, and livelihood, seemed to undermine the film’s underlying commentary on the abuse of power and gender politics. Despite this, the film remains a gripping, stylish thriller with plenty of intrigue and suspense to keep you hooked.
